Reynolds / Purves Family Genealogy Information

The Reynolds Family Coat Of Arms

The image below is a small (very small) section of a map that I have of the town of Lisbon, New York. The map is from the year 1865 and the names of the land owners (at that time) are printed where their property was located. The names Reynolds, Flack, Spear and others all appear on this map. At the top-center of the map the location of the Reynolds Family farm is clearly marked
"W.H. Reynolds". The farm was in the Reynolds Family from 1833 at the latest. And most likely as far back as 1800. W.H. Reynolds (1808-1882, 8th Generation), along with his wife Harriet, owned the farm at the time this map was printed.
Uriah Henry Reynolds (1845-1906, 9th Generation), William's only surviving child continued to run the farm after his father William's sudden death in 1882. Little else is known about Uriah except that he married Cemantha Adeline Flack in 1869. And that he had seven surviving children to help him work the family farm.

Uriah's two youngest boys- Alvah Reynolds (1881-1923) and Leon Vincent Reynolds (1883-1954) (Both 10th Generation Reynolds') continued the farming tradition of the Reynolds family after their father died of pneumonia in 1906 at the age of 61. It is not certain whether the farmhouse and land marked on the map was originally lived in and operated by Leon and his immediate family or his brother Alvah and his family. One of the brothers may have lived nearby and owned land seperate from the original Reynolds farm. (If you have any information on this subject, please let me know)

It is my understanding that Leon eventually settled in the original Reynolds farm house with his wife Jessie Purves, and their four children- Clifford Purves (1914-1981), Bernard Uriah (1916-1996), Howard Thomas (1920-1991), and Doris Agnes (1928-need year of death). Leon and Jesse's four children represent the 11th Generation of Reynolds'.

As Leon's children began leaving home for service in World War II and lives of their own, the Reynolds long farming history was coming to a close. In the late 40's - early 50's, Leon and Jesse would retire from farming life and move to the City of Ogdensburg, New York.

The above information was taken from genealogy data compiled by Virginia Reynolds of Fort Mitchell, Kentucky.
