Marc's Science Homework for the Week of October 8-12

"You ever see what water does to a piece of iron?
You can imagine what it does to your stomach.
"
- Utah Philips

Monday, October 8
No school on Columbus Day. I'll see you tomorrow!

Tuesday, October 9
I sure was surprised by my birthday surprise party at the beach last week – thank you all!

We didn't visit the Goleta Wastewater Treatment Plant as I thought was planned, but I still expect you to read the packet and be ready for an EASY multiple choice quiz tomorrow on Wednesday. At least it's easy IF you read it all!

I'll return lab books, and we'll correct (and argue about) the Thursday scales quiz in class.

Next lab work is to measure mass and volume of three different homogeneous materials, and figure the density of each. You must measure the density of water, something that sinks, and something that floats. We'll cover details in class. I'm fussy about how you record data in your lab book!

Wednesday, October 10
Easy test about our water use from the reading packet. Then we'll have work time to start measuring the density of three different homogeneous materials. There's a bonus for the MOST and LEAST dense materials you can find. Be sure you understand my fussy way of recording data!

Thursday, October 11
More work time on measuring the density of three different homogeneous materials. Be sure you understand my fussy way of recording your data! I guess lab reports will be due next Tuesday, October 16 – but that date is subject to change.

No science class on Friday, but be sure you're getting your lab work done!

  • Skim Boards – your boards must be painted by Wednesday so we can resin on Friday!

  • Weird Science – Wednesday after school from 3:30 - 4:30. Battlebot work time!

  • Hike Club – Thursday from 2:30 - 5:30, maybe bouldering at Lizard Mouth with Dawn!
